Alaina Harten, RN

Alaina has been a registered nurse for over 10 years and has worked in a variety of health care settings, including:  medical-surgical, long term care, public health, and primary care.  Since starting at the Algoma NP Led Clinic in 2011 (when its doors first opened), she has earned certifications in smoking cessation, diabetes education, chronic disease self management, and diabetic foot care.  Her dedication to patient centered care is demonstrated through various clinic programs such as healthy living/weight promotion, smoking cessation, blood pressure and diabetes management.  In her personal time, she is kept busy taking care of her son, husband, and very vocal beagle.

Andrew Suffel, RPN

Andrew has been a Register Practical Nurse with the Algoma NPLC since early 2014.  He has over 9 years of experience in healthcare.

Velvet Redmond-Harten, RPN

Velvet has been a Registered Practical Nurse with the Algoma NPLC since it’s opening day in 2011.  She has over 30 years’ experience in her field.

Abbi Veira, RSW

Abbi is a Registered Social Worker and has been working in the field since 2009 after graduating from Lakehead University with an Honours Bachelor of Social Work.  She has experience in the areas of child welfare and child and family mental health counseling.  She has worked in remote towns and most recently returned home to the Soo after 4 years of working in Calgary, Alberta with women and their families experiencing chronic homelessness, mental health and addictions.

Administrative Staff

Sarah Schryer, MSW & Administrative Lead

Sarah graduated in 2005 from Lakehead University with a degree in social work. Upon graduation she has worked in a variety of health care settings in the role of social worker. Sarah has been with the NPLC since it opened in 2011 as the clinical social worker developing the mental health program and offering groups for depression, chronic pain and chronic disease management. In 2017 Sarah graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Master of Social Work degree and has stepped into the role of Administrative Lead.  Sarah is a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and the Ontario Association of Social Work. During her free time she enjoys snowshoeing, cross stitching and spends a lot of time at the arena cheering on her little hockey players!

Sandra Dereski, Administrative Lead (On Leave)

Sandra has been working in primary healthcare administration since 2007 when she obtained her Bachelor of Health Science degree from the University of Western Ontario with a specialization in Rural Health Policy. In 2014, she completed her Masters of Health Studies Leadership degree to further her knowledge and expertise in leading health care organizations. She was the Executive Director for the Wawa FHT prior to relocating to the Sault to work with the Algoma NPLC. She is an advocate for positive change management and loves being a part of this dynamic team.

Ashley Hall, Administrative Assistant

Ashley is the Administrative Assistant at the Clinic. She has been with the clinic for 3 and a half years as the medical receptionist and recently has transitioned to the administrative assistant role. Ashley has been working in the medical field for almost 9 years. When Ashley is not at the Clinic she can be found cross country skiing at Hiawatha, downhill skiing at Searchmont or riding her bike along the Sault Ste. Marie Hub Trail.
